Professional Bio

Barbara Kimmel is a children’s book author and playwright. She writes playful board books and picture books that entertain, engage, and educate the youngest readers. Her debut children’s book, Hanukkah Hippity-Hop, published by Kar-Ben Publishing, is available for pre-order with a scheduled release date of October 1, 2024. Her second book, Purim Possibilities, published by PJ Publishing, is scheduled for a 2026 release. Additionally, Barbara’s short stories have been featured in Highlights and High Five magazines.

Barbara was named a finalist in the Astra International Picture Book Writing Contest and has received a PJ Library Author Incentive Award. Her plays have seen success on various stages, including productions in New York, Atlanta, and London. In 2022, her play Reconstruction was selected for the Annual Women Playwrights Festival at the Ivoryton Playhouse, where it received an Ellie Award.

Barbara is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and the Authors Guild. Beyond her writing pursuits, she contributes to her community as a reading tutor, dystonia advocate, and hospice care volunteer. Barbara graduated from Brown University, where she was the first female mascot, “The Brown Bear.” She and her husband have three grown children and live in Atlanta, Georiga.
