Professional Bio
Barbara Kimmel is a children’s book author and playwright. She writes playful picture books and board books that entertain, engage, and educate the youngest readers. Barbara’s debut children’s book Hanukkah Hippity-Hop is scheduled to release in fall 2024 from Kar-Ben Publishing.
Barbara is a recipient of the 2021 Astra International Picture Book Writing Contest Finalist Prize and was selected to attend PJ Library’s inaugural Picture Book Summer Camp for Emerging Writers at the Highlights Foundation. Barbara’s plays have been produced in New York, Atlanta, London, and more. In 2022, her play Reconstruction was chosen for the Fifth Annual Women Playwrights Festival at the Ivoryton Playhouse and received an Ellie Award.
Barbara is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Working Title Playwrights, and the Authors Guild. She is active in her community as a reading tutor, dystonia advocate, and hospice volunteer. Barbara received an AB degree from Brown University (where she was the first female mascot, “The Brown Bear”). She has three grown children and lives in Atlanta with her husband.
